Exercise For Life Reflection Geo3#22

For our Make A Difference Project, me and my group mates decided to encourage the youth of the CNMI to exercise. We wanted to get the youth involve in outdoor activities instead of just being on their phones. We wanted them to know that there are consequences if you do not exercise or diet. You can not just exercise and not diet or vise versa. Exercise and diet comes hand in hand. We explained to a crowd of people that there are consequences to not exercising and dieting. The consequences include obesity and heart problems. We are trying to encourage people to live a long and healthy life by dieting and exercising.

This week we have accomplished doing our first "mini event". We had a variety of fun things such as basketball, volleyball, balloon toss,  and tug of war.  Some problems that we have faced are delayed time and lack of communication. But even though we started out late, I had fun playing basketball and balloon toss. It was a great and fun exercise. We are on track for an on time delivery.  The adjustments we made for our timeline, was adding the cultural day event in the proposal. Our next action is to prepare for our next event on April 12, 2017. With our feedbacks,  we have a clear vision on what to do next time.  We know not to always depends on people who do not seem to be dependable.  I know for sure that when I need something, I will do it myself and get the work done faster. That is a lesson well learned.

04.06.17

This week, we talked to a presenter about healthy foods and diet, and she explained how if you don't watch what you eat and go straight to just exercising, you're basically not doing anything at all.  She says that diet and exercise go hand in hand. We accomplished talking to the principal of Koblerville Elementary School about our event & he have us permission to use the field. We also are trying to include some sports in cultural day, on April 12, 2017 to kind of make a message to the student body that we are serious about our project. But that is all pending because we are still waiting for an email from Mr. Aguon permission to include some sports. We talked go the STUCO vice president and she said it's going to be okay to include sports, but we just need approval from the main office.

This week, my group and I, have accomplished good communication skills with our primary mentor, Mrs. Forti. We mostly discussed about what diet does to ourselves and how diet is the most effective way to prevent obesity. My group mates and I have made final arrangements to the schedule and our exercise event will begin every Friday for the month of April. We will continue to advertise our flyer and try go get people to come to our events. We have also accomplished making surveys and we have posted them online for the public to give us feedback. So far, there are lots of people answering our survey.

This week, I have talked to our mentor for the project about what we should do next. She explained that exercise is not the most effective way to try to prevent obesity. She also suggested that we make a power point about how diet can help prevent obesity and that we can showcase a documentary how our food has been processed so that can be an eye opening to the public. Ms. Forti suggests that we should change our audience to the whole community, so parents can be also aware that obesity is a problem here in the CNMI. I think that if we add diet into our presentation, we might bore our audience, The challenge that I expect is trying to catch the audience's attention while making them learn more about what we are eating. I know that we are behind in schedule and we should have started our event soon, but I believe that we can do this event. I think that the future challenges we should have to expect is if there isn't a lot of people attending this event.

We have accomplished our complete proposal. We have also accomplished asking Ms. Forti to be our primary mentor for the event and Mr. Miura to be the secondary mentor. We have experienced so many challenges for these past few weeks. One challenge we had faced was where the location of the event would be. In the beginning, we wanted the event to be on SSHS grounds. But since there is no place for softball, flag football, etc., we had to relocate. Our new location would be the field at Koblerville Elementary School. Another problem we would expect to face is what if there is not enough students playing sports. That would make our M.A.D. Project a total failure. I have learned that communication is so important. We always have to communicate to get things done so fast and simple. I think that my skills have improved slightly a bit up but I know for sure that I will work on my hardest to help my group mates accomplish my project. I think that we are slightly delayed in our on -time delivery and that it would make us need to make adjustments to our timeline. My next action is to make up a on-ground survey and ask people which sport they like playing so we can know what our first Friday sport would be.
